On Friday, members of our Jazz Band auditioned for the All-Region Jazz Band at Bonham MS in Temple. 170 students from central Texas auditioned for only 21 spots, only a 12% acceptance rate. I am proud to report that 5 of our students made the group, as well as 2 alternates, which is an honorable mention. This means that almost one-fourth of the group is from South Belton, the most from any one school.
8th grader Caleb K. placed 4th chair out of 39 trumpets, and placed 2nd chair in the Region Symphonic Band earlier this year. 8th grader Josh F. placed 1st chair out of 24 trombones, is a 2-Year Region Jazz Band member, AND placed 1st chair in the Region Symphonic Band earlier this year! 7th grader Duncan L. placed 3rd chair out of 24 trombones, and placed 5th chair in the Region Symphonic Band earlier this year. 8th grader Lylian I. placed 4th chair out of 24 trombones. 8th grader Zachary D. placed 1st chair out of 4 vibraphones, was an Alternate Region Jazz Band member last year, AND placed 3rd chair in the Region Symphonic Band on percussion earlier this year!
Alternates include 8th grader Ritchie W. who placed 6th chair out of 39 trumpets, and placed 7th chair in the Region Symphonic Band earlier this year. 7th grader Grant S. placed 3rd chair out of 14 drummers, and placed 4th chair in the Region Symphonic Band on percussion earlier this year. Region members will get to rehearse with a notable jazz educator, and will be the opening act for the Temple Jazz Orchestra at the Temple Jazz Festival at Temple College in March.
Please join me in congratulating all 7 of these superior jazz musicians!
